Over the life of my vehicle I have achieved 16.9 MPG in mixed driving. Although I have been impressed, sometimes I think that it is moreoptimistic than accurate. Has anyone done the math on this to verify the accuracy?
Well Ive only ever checked mine per tank, but when I have, its matched up very closely with the avg MPG the message center displays. Withing a few .1's of the computer.
I've got 28,000 on my 2006 RR now and have averaged 16.1 mpg so far. I am pretty happy with this figure too considering much of my driving is in the city. I do think the computer is pretty spot on too based on my own calculations.
My Rover with 4.0 and 130k miles returns around 16.5 on average and has done all her life. Bought her new in 1996 (95 model year) and I check it fairly regularly both manually and with the trip computer which has proven to be remarkably accurate.
Trying to get an accurate MPG can not be done with the computer, it usually isn't even close.
Check it the old fashion way, divide your miles driven by your next couple tank full, then pull out the clean nex cause it will be lower.
