Default 2005 Rover

Time to buy a different LR. Sold my '02 Disco to my son recently. Have my eye on '05 or newer RR. Did a search and read some of the problems with the '05 and older models. Just wanted some opinions before I pull the trigger. Currently there are two that I have my eye on. The first one is an '05 HSE with only 85k miles that the dealer has pre-approved for 3yr/45k extended warranty for $16,950, beautiful looking vehicle inside and out I bought an '06 Jaguar XKR from this dealership a couple of years ago and had a great experience. The second one is an '06 HSE with 123k miles for $15,000, no extended warranty and I haven't ever dealt with this dealer. Would the "better" Jaguar power train be enough of a draw for you guys to go with the '06? Any other thought or opinions are welcome. Thank you in advance.

Is the 45k warranty a power train or comprehensive? Either or honestly I would go with the lower miles/warranty/dealership you know well already.

I sent the dealership a message about the '05 to start the conversation that is one question that I need to ask. On the Jag that we bought from them it was comprehensive, so I'm guessing it might be the same.

The 06+ RRs have the Jaguar V8. I personally love the AJV8 from Jaguar... The 03 to 05 have a BMW V8, which is also a good engine, but I prefer the Jag V8.

I would get the Jag motor over the BMW. Much better product IMHO.

I'd highly consider looking at the '05 w/ the warranty and lower miles. Yeah, the Jag is engine is great, but if something fails its on your dime.

There have not been many changes from '05-06, I believe one of bigger changes (besides the Jag/Bmw take-over) was that the sat/nav module was upgraded to fiber optics, but other than that its all the same BMW electrics and classic L322 styling.

The RRs with the Jag V8 use a 6 speed automatic transmission. The ones with the BMW transmission have a 5 speed automatic. The 6 speed automatics, which is what is in our XJR are wonderful. They do not have as many problems as the 5 speeds. Our 98 XJ8 has the 5 speed, its a good transmission, but they did have problems. The one in mine was replaced at 75k miles. The transmissions from the Jags and RRs are virtually the same, the RR's are a bit beefier is all.

However, as stated above, warranty means a lot. Is it 16k w/o the warranty? It was almost 5k for the extended warranty on our XJR, which we did not need..... The car has been bullet proof.
