Default 92 Classic Dies Going 55mph On Interstate

Just wanted to know if anyone has had a similiar issue.

I was driving down the interstate and my Range Rover Classic SWB 92 died while I was going 55mph. I have done several road trips and drive it daily.

I was able to coast to the side of the road, without steering, and park.

The car would not start, though the radio, a/c, etc. still worked.

2 Minutes later it fired up and I drove it straight home. Taking it to mechanic today. My 93' Isuzu Trooper did this to me as well 2 or 3 times before I sold it.

The alternator has been already replaced. But I am still having it checked out. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

I was wondering if it was the ignition switch and if those are easily replaced DIY?

Thanks!!!

I would not think it would be the ignition switch. I would be leaning more to maybe a fuel issue or possibly a spark but I would start with fuel.

if it has electric fuel pump? tank mounted and is like any other vehicle. this is where i'd start. On 1998 gmc truck it makes a high pitch noise before going out. toyotas u have about 5-7 starts left in it. any good mechanic can diagnose and repair.

re ason i use mechanics on this job, messy. w/o lift and tank jack you are on your back in dirt w/ gas tank on your chest usally covered in gas and if vehicle is not raised high enough hard to get out and lines not easy to get loose.

Check spark and fuel pressure the next time this happens, so you can rule them out if they are not the cause (although, I think they are). There is the possibility of it being the alternator, but when that happens, the vehicle usually won't have ANY juice left in the battery and nothing will work afterward. I also highly doubt it is the ignition switch, as they are very simple and rarely break on the classics.

So what did the mechanic say? Have you taken it there yet?

I'm still driving the car. It was a one time thing. The guys looked the car over and thinks it is a wiring issue. I am also going to take it to another mechanic for a second opinion.

It has only occurred once? I still think it is your fuel pump ready to go. However, classics are known for that kind of behavior lol, and often times nothing is wrong. Just lucas in there messing with your wires .

COOL! I love it when it is something really simple.
