97 RR, Fuel Pump? Will not start
Hey everyone. I have a 1997 Rang Rover 4.0 se.
Where to start? had a used engine put in it this last summer by the dealer. Ever since I got it back it has had problems. Currently it will not even start up, just turns over. I took it into a shop a month ago because it was misfiring. changed plugs and plug leads. still misfiring. Cylinder 4 and 6 were the problems. So i swapped the coil packs around to be sure it was a couple bad coils nothing else..Started it up (fired right up, still missing tho) took it back into the shop and they called me the next day saying they couldnt even get it started. I have been doin research online and I tried a Crankshaft sensor and that did not work. In short I think it is the fuel pump. I am getting spark, but when I turn then key to prime it I barley have any pressure built up in the fuel rail. It will fire up using starting fluid tho. I don't know much about cars. I am in college, school is out in a week and do not have much money at all to spend on pricey shops. So do these symptoms sound like a fuel pump? I know I have a bad couple bad coils, but right now I am just trying to get the thing started.

Sounds like a fuel pump to me (as long as you have already checked your inertia switch, fuel filter, and relay) PM/ text or emai me if you need a fuel pump and some coils....
Hope your day gets better

Agreed, it is probably the fuel pump. Definitely check the fuel filter first though. Mine was giving me the same problems (even the misfire) and one day it left me stranded at the store. I walked to a auto parts store and bought the filter, a couple cressant wrenches and some paper towels and 20 min later I was up and running with no problems at all.
alrighty, thank you for the help guys. I am in the middle of Finals with school. When I get some time I will throw the filter on go from there. Will post soon after I do that and update on how things are going. Thanks again!
car runs for 5 minuites then dies wait an hour starts runs great then dies any ideas. Thanks Jeff dakland@yahoo.com
Definitely sounds like a fuel issue. Have you checked the fuel pressure at the rail? The first thing I would do is replace the fuel filter. It is dirt cheap and easy to do and may solve your problem right there. Most people never change these as part of regular maintenance. I change mine out every 30k or so.
