I just picked up a 99 RR with serious baked on brake dust. Anyone have any tips on removing the dust. I've cleaned and scrubbed with wheel cleaner, and simple green with only mediocre results. I've read phosphoric acid, or oven cleaner. But I'm looking for someone who actually had a good result. I don't think this guy ever cleaned these wheels. Don't worry (Mike) I'm going over all service issues as well.

When I was younger and washed cars at a dealership (worst job ever) we used this acid stuff to remove the grime from the tires, and it did a very good job. You might want to try something a bit stronger and just keep working away at it. Good luck .

 

When it's time for new brakes, ceramics are the way to go. I installed Akebono Euro ceramic brake pads front and rear 2 years ago, and have NEVER had any brake dust since.

 

Bug and tar remover and a scotch brite pad did the trick, and oh yeah lots of scrubbing too
