If you can go with a 4.6 then do so, they are similar engines just a larfger size and a little more oomph. As far as the SE to HSE it is all down to interior oprions other than every HSE I believe is going to be a 4.6 engine. EIther way in my opinion you will be happy with which ever one you get.

You really can't go wrong with either and probably wouldn't notice a significant difference between the two. They are based on the same design and only differ in displacement. I am not aware of any reliability differences between the two. But hey, bigger is better right?

The 4.0 is kinda slow in comparison to the 4.6. I prefer the 4.0 only because in my opinion the 4.6 is pushing the design limits of a block that was originally a 3.5L in the late 60s. However, with either size maintenance is very important. If the engine is neglected, it will fail regardless of the size and HP.

I've only had 4.6 versions of the RR. HSE has more options and better performance. 4.0 is the less expensive Rangie. Same cost for repairs, go with the one that feels the best to you.

If the weather is nice I am going to do my head gasket as preventive maintenance this weekend. While I am at it I will also be replacing the thermostat and any hoses that aren't up to par.
