Dont' be afraid on what you hear or heard. Not every 03 with BMW engine has a problem, just like any other car manufacturers, they do have thier own share of problems as well. Mine is an 03 and I am pretty happy with it. People who frequent this forum are usually the ones with problem and looking for some answers.

Parents had a 04 from 04-09. Put 100,000 miles on and never had really any large problems.... My 02 has even been problem free... Just make sure you have it looked over by a dealer or trusted person.

I have no first hand experience with the new Jaguar engines but I've heard that Rovers from 2006 and on have the better Jaguar engines. If I were to buy one, I would opt for an 07' or newer as the first year of a major change to a vehicle often times has more bugs than model years that are a bit newer. You should be able to google reliability complaints with any model year, though, to see what's been posted out there.
