Default BETTER PURCHASE, 2004 HSE, 2007 or 2008 HSE

Hello Gents,

While I've been around Rovers for about 25+ yrs and have owned my share of Series IIs, DI and DII Discos ( chattery sleeves and all), P38 Rovers and a load of classics, I have never owned a latter Range Rover.
I have looked at a super clean 04' with 114K, another 04' with 104K, an 07' with 83K and an 08' with 84K.
All three are clean, and run well. Clean CARFAXs and nothing on AUTOCHECK. KBB shows them fairly cheap. All founr are on the high side of KBB, but i am fairly certain I can walk away paying "cond. good " price.
This is what I saw:
2004 HSE Zambezi green with 104K $12,988
2004 HSE Black ( w/ safari package) with 114K #12,900
2007 HSE Black with 83K for $23900
2008 HSE Black with 84K for $24500

I am planning to just finance as I get a pretty good rate, and my monthly will work out ot about $350 for the latter ones, about $200 for ther early ones.

I am not concerned about longetivy of brakes ( I have a good bud in SoCal for all EBC brake-related stuff); I am not concerned about having to replace tires frequently, window switches going out, door rattles and things like that.
My HUGE concern is the engine.

After my last deployment, I purchased a super clean DII SE with 40K miles from the original owner. I didn't even make it 150 miles before I got stranded on my way home. $6000 in repairs later, I got rid of it. In the other hand, I'd had a 99' DII with 160K miles ( I did do the headgaskets) that NEVER gave me a problem. I regret selling it.

What is the better of the above Rovers to purchase in your guys' opinion?

ALL input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot

That 04 with the BMW engine is trash - just like the V8 BMW engine is in their cars. The others are Jaguar engines, much better.

The BMW engine has more oil leaks than quarts of oil. You'll spend the rest of your life trying to fix those leaks.

That's terrible. I'm glad to know, never really got involved with BMWs beyond the old 2002s.
Thanks for the advice.

Not only do they leak oil like there is no tomorrow, the timing chain and associated tensioners and guides are know to fail.

Not a good engine. I'd take an old Chevrolet Impala V8 from the 70s over that BMW mess, anytime.

I agree with the others, 07 & 08 has the better motor. 2007 also was the "facelift", which makes that chassis look (in my opinion) better.

Thank you all for the info.
I've narrowed it to an 08'. I want to stay under a $23K cap. KBB is 24K for a cherry one. All the ones at reputable dealerships are in the 24K range with 80-88K miles.
There is another 08' from a private party, with 102K for $19K.
I know on DIIs it was better to buy one with fair miles that had HGs and such already done, than one with "low" miles but untouched. Would that be the case in the latter RRs..........?
I'm not worried about any issues on the newer RRs except for engine reliability.
