I am thinking of buying a wrecked 98 Disco with 175K miles for my RRCLWB Safari. The Borg Warner TC is shot along with probably the CV's and front diff.. I am thinking of putting the parts from the disco on to my LWB. Its a 95 with the soft dash, so I was thinking there are other parts that will fit. Does anyone know off hand the general parts that are the same.. Keep in mind my LWB has no top... just a roll cage. So doors and body parts are not important to me.. I just want to pick up this disco for a grand get my parts and sell the rest so it will end up costing me nothing or make money on the deal..

From the standpoint of interchangeability you would have been better off with a '94 or '95 DI. At least then you would have been able to use all of the engine parts, particularly the sensors and computers. The '98 uses the GEMS fuel injection system with little overlap except in instances like fuel temp sensors otherwise everything else is different. Oddly, the injectors are still the same.

When you pull the transfer case make sure you also pull the coupler off the back of the transmission. The diff is the same as are the axles and CV's.

As far as the dash is concerned, you won't be able to use the center dash fascia (the part around the radio and HVAC unit) or the bezel around the instument cluster. If the DI has a woodgrained center console (only on a handful of Anniversary and LSE models IIRC) pull it. It will save you from having to enlarge the hole in the wood for where the transfer case shifter fits. The old BW shifter only went front to back requiring a much smaller cut out in the wood whereas the LT230 shifts in an H pattern.

I know I'm overlooking a ton of other small stuff but you'll see once you start tearing into the DI.
