I have been receiving this message since I bought this 1997 Range Rover 4.0 a week ago. What is the best course of action?

 

Does the P38 still have EAS (Electronic Air Suspension) or has it been converted to coil springs?

The "EAS Manual" message is usually due to the EAS Delay Timer (black box, about the size of a match box) under the front LH seat being bypassed or removed.

As I recall, when this message is on the Message Centre you will not be able to view any other messages or useful onboard info.

Reading your other post with the cruise control and instrumentation issues, it sounds like you got a lemon. These issues won't be impossible to fix or even necessarily too expensive if you are prepared to do the work yourself.

I would like to do the work myself. I bought this and know nothing about it. According to the Owner's Manual, "EAS Manual" is a "minor fault." I just have no clue how to proceed.

 

First off, as Paul indicated, check to see if you still have the EAS supension in place by confirming that there are air bags and not coil springs at each corner. If you have that error message and the vehicle has no other symptoms like one corner lower than another or the entire vehicle on the bump stops then you may not still have the EAS.

 

Mine says "eas manual" every time I start the rig. It then disappears after a few seconds and shows the odometer and trip computer as it is supposed to. Mine has been converted to coils.

 

That's probably what the factory system determines before your EAS override module kicks in and fools it into thinking everything is functioning properly. I've read that the crappier convesion kits don't cancel out the error codes very well.
