Default Fuel Gauge: How Low Will It Go

My fuel light comes on at roughly 50 miles range but sometimes I don't notice it right away. I have been down to about 20 but that is as low as I have gone. Is this estimate pretty accurate?

I saw a show once (on motorweek I think) that showed many cars going far beyond empty but I never had the guts to try it.

Well the computers can be very accurate but, will not get it right everytime. 20 miles is pushing it and I wouldn't go down much further primarily because if the car does run out of gas, it can cause a miss-fire that may damage the catalytic converter. So I just assume not risk it.

Definitely not. I also don't like to run low because the gas is more dirty at the bottom of the tank. When you run low the impurities that settled tothe bottom of the tank (dirt, debris, etc.)will then be pulled through your fuel system. Similar concept:glass of water with crumbs.

'My lady ran her disco out of gas, and that was a real nightmare. You can't just put in 1 gal and expect it to start you'll need closer to 5. And when I went to fill it the pressure caused some of it to spray back up on me soaking me in gas. So don't chance it it's not worth it.
