Default Gas Gauge Issues??

I have a 01 RR 4.6, this morning while driving to work I watched my gas gauge go from full to 5/8 in a 20 mile drive. I have no idea why it did this, it wasent in 4 wheel drive, e-brake was off, it was in overdrive...everything was good??? Could this be a problem with just my gas gauge or what???

Well make sure your almost out of gas becuase this one gets heavy around a 1/2 tank. Deep socket 17 and one shallow 15 be sure you sisconnect the breather and fill line under passenger rear inner wheel shroud before you start and be care full about the fuel line going north as the tank comes down
