Going to replace a 95 Classic...any ideas?

Default Going to replace a 95 Classic...any ideas?

We have a 95 Classic but it has a few problems, transfer case, one head gasket has a small leak and the rear window and tail gate has rust. So looking for a lowish cost replacement...in the next series or the one after of a Range Rover....P38 seems to be the leader right now but a L322 might have an outside chance. Wife says she doesn't like the L322 (Darling Daughter has a 03 or 04) but she wasn't too hot on the Rangie at all until she spent some time in it.

So good and bad points, years to look at (and things to look at!) and years to maybe avoid. Any engine with more problems than we need? Thanks much!

97 or 98 discovery 1, 04 discovery 2, or lr3 depending on $ available. Avoid a p38 at all costs.

Low cost = new problems. Any reason you don't just fix yours? Or is the whole thing rusty?

Avoid a p38 at all costs.
Why? I love mine, I've had it 4 years, very few issues. Except it leaks of course...

A lot of difference between a cheap 1999 Rangie and a cheap 2011 one! We spent less than $4000 for our 95 several years ago (it had a few issues according to the dealer and I was pretty sure the issues were a crappy battery and needing new wires and plugs...and I was right for once) and we got well over 100,000 miles out of it without many problems. I guess what I am saying that price is one of our concerns and my wife would like something sooner than later and I can't work fast enough to fix our Rangie to suit her. We might very well bring our old Rangie back to life but I'd rather do it at my own pace than her's...LOL dear! And her having another Rangie to get her to work without having to worry about the weather (my car is a 96 XJ12 and it doesn't like snow at all and I don't like her putting a lot of miles on it) would take a bit of pressure off of me.

Because out of the 4 rangies, it's the most unreliable.

So are you looking for a long term purchase or just something for her to drive until you get the '95 fixed? If you really like the RRC (and use it's space) I doubt you'll be happy with a Disco long term, but it could be ok as an interim vehicle.

How is it more spacious with the spare inside and a lower roof? The 108? I'm with you on the rest though. I figure the '95 is one of the best models out there, not much better than those unless it's really rusted out. In that case, get another '95 and you've already got a parts car.

Because out of the 4 rangies, it's the most unreliable.
Having dealt with both P38s and L322s (bmw engine) I would say the L322 is worse imho...

1 truck might be better then the next but overall, reports have shown the L322's more reliable.
