Default Hard Start, Rich P38

97 P38 4.6.

Brand new head gasket job. I was the new owner while it already needed them. Ran a little crappy because of HGs dont recall it running this rich.

When cold it takes a lot of stumbly cranks to get going. Has a little mis, high idle and runs super rich.

Thought I must have left a connector undone for something. Fuel temp, TPS, Coolant Temp, injectors, MAF, IACV, IAT, AEvap, etc all plugged in.

Have swapped out O2s, MAF, plugs, wires, coil pack, injectors, rail, TPS and IACV. Have not swapped a fuel pressure reg or fuel pump.

Before I start dropping tanks (and I dont have a fuel pressure reg handy), Is there anything someone can think of I missed?

Also, I can't find what page in the RAVE on testing the crank sensor wiring in case a wire broke while doing the HGs.

The fact it seems to have happened after doing the HGs makes me think I missed something, but everything that controls fuel appears to communicating or has been replaced. There are no CELs and nothing important in pending codes in Testbook.

Thoughts?

You probably have one or two injectors stuck open. Thus, the hard starting (loses all of the fuel pressure) and then dumps fuel like their is no tomorrow.

You should see the fuel trim left and right which will give you a clue.

So, why did you replace the injectors?

Because it was running pig rich, so tried another set of injectors to see if one was jammed open.

Now also have tried new FPR, crank sensor and new coolant and fuel temp sensors.

Ran testbook - no stored codes, if I pull each injector plug it will throw a code and run worse.

It seems to run better in open loop, but I have tried a different set of O2. Testbook reads voltage from each. ~0.5 volts - 1 volts for the fronts and 0.05 volts in the rear.

I am really at a loss here. If there was a break in a wire I would think it would throw a code for the sensor.

So the run down again of things that have been replaced:
o2
coil pack
plugs
wires
fuel temp sensor
coolant temp
cps
FPR
injectors
rail
MAF
TPS
IACV

PIG RICH.
