Default help! air suspension won't go up!

My co-worker is looking to buy a 96 4.6 HSE that he is test driving and the air-suspension system is all the way down and will not go up. He isn't necessarily worried about replacing it with the oem stuff but maybe some type of coilspring setup? Then he wouldn't have to worry about the air ride. What do you think he can do and how much will it cost?

Thanks alot!

It is quite common to replace the air suspension with standard coils here in the UK, not sure how much it would cost over int he US though.

Things to check are the pump, is it actually working? Secondly, check around the vehicle, you may find that one of the bags has a leak.

Can find you links to a company here in the uk that supplies the link to allow a conversion to springs and shocks.

My 93 lwb classic has settled on the stops.
The pump will still run if you supply 12v at the pump...it's just not getting current through the factory system.
And something, (maybe a relay?) is slowly draining the battery unless I remove the fuse under the front passenger seat.

Since the air bags do not leak down quickly, and the pump is still good, I hope to keep the air ride instead of installing coil springs.

Any trouble shooting steps would be appreciated.

Any ideas on trouble shooting the air ride, instead of installing springs?
Does anyone have a flow chart for air ride diagnostics?

the coil change over is common. reason, less maintainence, less costly to replace. most I have heard on the negative is that the ride is alittle tighter. don't know about the pump routing. hope it helps, gotta love a rover. duboff.

check your fuses, relays (not just by feel but switch one with the other) let the truck idle for 7 mins with the door OPEN while it is running put your hand on the compressor feel for vibration shut the door, if it still doesnt level out you have to check for power and ground at the compressor if you have both of those and you didnt feel a vibration in the compressor the compressor is bad... if the car does level out when you shut the door get a bottle of soapy water and spray the hell out of all the components (valve body, bags, lines, air connectors etc..) if you see bubles you got a leak.. try those things and get back to us with your findings..
