Default hot starting problem and oil in intake tube

im having hot starting problems with my 96 range rover se if i run it over 15 mintues then turn it off and let it sit for about 10-30 min it has a hard time starting and if does start the idle is eradic and i would have to rev it to get it back to normal idle, but if i let it sit for aother 30 mn it starts right up. I figured there was something wrong with the the maf so i took the whole intake tube from the throttle body to the intake housing and when i examined the tube i found oil residue on the intake tube and the throttle body is coated with oil. Is this normal? i had an oil change prior to this and my mechanic put too much oil, could my maf have been fried due to the oil in the intake heating up the maf??
