Default How Do the Rebuilt Engines Run 91

Hi Guys ~ Totally new to this. I am planning on buying a 92** Rover LWB this weekend. The vehicle looks like it is in pristine condition, but I don't know if it's on a springs or coils.

It has a rebuilt engine with approximately 45,000 on it.

I'm just curious to know from the seasoned Rover guys out there as to what their opinions are on rebuilt Rover engines.

I am having a rover mechanic look at it next week.

Thoughts?

Thanks guys!

Well, if it already has 45k on it with the rebuild without a large amount of issues, then it was probably a good rebuild and will last longer. The easiest way to tell if it is on coils or air is to simply put the system in the off road and crawl mode and see if it changes position. If it does not, then it is probably on coils. The buttons are located on the forward left most portion of the center console. It should have 3 buttons (up, down, and lock). When you say springs & coils I assume you are thinking of air springs and spring coils.

I thought the EAS and LWB were introduced in 93, if this is a 91 shouldn't it be coil springs and a SWB.

You are right the LWB was not introduced until 1993, although on some "special edition" swbs had EAS on them.

Are you located in the EU? The LWB was released in 92 for the EU, they always release their cars a year ahead in the EU, or they do something different with the MFG and Model Dates. Does the MFG date on the door say 1992? If it does then it is a 93 US model.

The engine was rebuilt in 2001 by a Land Rover dealer. I drove it to Vermont and back, which was about 9 hours. No problem. Happy with my purchase. I'll try to post pics if anyone is interested. The engine has about 50,000 miles on it.

I need a couple of little things like a new **** for the 4WD and two dome light covers as the current ones have been stained by years of use.

Any recommendation on where to find used parts? Ebay Motors was not much help.
