Question I had to I had to! An now it won't start.

I have a Series II LR Discovery but have always had a thing for the classic Range Rover. I came across one yesterday as a project vehicle. She is a 1988 Classic with a 3.5 V8, only 80k original miles, straight body and good interior etc etc. She is not a runner.

Former owner described it as what started as an intermittent issue of the car not starting sometimes to not starting at all. It has not run in a year. I brought her home and checked timing, compression, fuel delivery and injection pulse. Everything seems good but she just will not start. Is timing an issue? Could it be 180 out? I have no clue what to do and would really like to save this classic.

Thank you all,

Fred

I am no expert but even if it was 180 deg out it would try to fire at least sometime. What is your spark like? You said you checked just about everything else but did not mention if you checked the coil or the pick up lead. It could be a bad distibuter cap or rotor. Just throwing things out there. Good Luck.

Question

We seem to have a good spark. Checked it coming out of the coil to the distributor and checked it at the plug. Spark looks good and strong. We are going to check to see if the pump is providing sufficient pressure next. Is a puzzler.

you checked fuel delivery, do you mean to the rail or through the injectors? if youre getting fuel into the intake try and start it a few times, and then pull plugs, see if theyre fuel fouled and youre flooding it, if so, youre probably looking at a ignition issue. what were youre compression readings?

Is it stumbling and trying to start or is there nothing? If you have spark and fuel then you should at least be trying to fire, now if it would run but rough and stall then that could be other things. Maybe a little more info would help.

Default Problem Solved

I am not sure what I did wrong earlier but we put a new rotor and cap on and viola! She runs after a year of sitting quiet. Thanks for all your help guys.
