Default Im in the market for 04-06 Range Rover Advice Needed

Hello All,

I'm in the market to buy an older Ranger Rover preferably in the 2004-06 model. I'm looking to get a little insight before I make a purchase, I know Rover maintenance issues are always a pain. I know these years particularly can offer some transmission issues as well as radiator issues. Taking a look online I see that I can get a decent looking one for under $15K and under 100K miles, which I think is a bargain. Just want to know if there are any other issues I should look out for or whether I should just not bother. Maybe pony up some more dough for a newer one? Any advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

If you find an '06 w/ under 100kmiles for under 15k, run away.

I had a full size '06 RR supercharged. Absolutely, one of my favorite cars ever owned. Loved it. I recommend the updated '06 models. The '04-'05 models have older tech and are powered by the BMW engine. My '06 had the 4.2 supercharged Jag engine. No complaints there. Had plenty of Giddie Up.

I only had two issues with it over 30k miles.

Had to replace the rear diff at 58kmiles.
The supercharger aux cooling pump was wired backwards from the factory. Twenty minutes of my time, reversed the wire leads and all was well.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the input. The '06 models are more in the $18-20K. Still not a bad investment. I just don't think a brand new one is worth the money they are asking for. I'll research some more on the '06 model then. Thanks again for the help.

A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted indy mechanic is worth while. He can be objective while you salivate in anticipation of a new ride....

I agree w/ Buzz. Stay away from the dealership for pre-inspections. Almost every car I ever sold the buyer wanted a "dealership pre-inspection. Needless, to say they missed one or two things each and every time.

Search out a reputable and trusted Indy mechanic to look over the truck. Do you homework in the Range Rover forums search for common problematic occurrences. Good luck.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll keep doing my research and I'll post pics or links if I find something thats worthwhile. I'm in no rush to buy one but if the perfect opportunity arises I wont pass it up.
