Land Rover announces it is cutting 450 jobs, including 300 managers, due to "severe reduction in demand".

NEW YORK Jaguar Land Rover said Wednesday it plans to cut 450 jobs in an effort to trim costs amid a slumping market for luxury cars, according to reports. The U.K. unit of India's Tata Motors Ltd. also said managers wouldn't receive bonuses in 2009, and that it would delay any salary increases until October at the earliest, the reports said. Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive David Smith was quoted by Reuters as saying the move was a "right and proper ... response to the unavoidable impact of the credit crunch and a severe reduction in demand." He also said that Jaguar doesn't "expect sales conditions to return to normal levels for some time."

That's not that bad considering what other manufacturers are doing. And at least like the previous article you linked said, they're trying to come up with creative ways to keep people employed.

 

Every company seems to be making cuts so I am certainly not surprised. I certainly am glad I am not in the car business!

 

How about the Cell Phone business, Motorola here in IL just announced 4500 job cuts.
