Mid 2000s Range Rover vs LR3
Hi everyone,
Im not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I didn't see a general page that made more sense.
Ive been driving a 97 jeep cherokee for the last 10 years and although it has been an awesome truck for the mountains of Colorado, I think it might be nice to be comfortable in on the trail. So I am looking at getting a Land Rover to replace it. I can afford a range rover or LR3 from around 05-07 and I was hoping you all could help me understand the advantages and disadvantages of each.
I will mostly be using it for driving short distances around town and for occasional trips up high mountain passes (black bear/imogine) and trips out to Moab/Dinosaur. So my questions are:
1) Are there any advantages off road to the full rover over the LR3 ( probably with Johnson rods installed).
2) How much do moderately aggressive tires affect the ride on these trucks
3) Are they really that bad to maintain. I do most of my own work on my cars so would it really be that expensive to maintain without the added cost of taking it to a shop?
Thanks for all the help.

Well I can tell you both vehicles would be suitable for the trails but with an lr3 I believe there are more off road parts just because more people take them off road. I own a 2009 lr3 HSE and I've taken it off road a few times and its great. Very comfortable and with the air suspension it can climb up and over everything. Rovers are high maintenance vehicles regardless. As long as you find a real well kept one expect some maintenance. If you go for an lr3 stick too the later models because more kinks were worked out with them. Rovers like Jeep is a part of your life just Rovers are more expensive. If you're looking for an awesome 4x4 with loads of gagets and luxury look no further than Rover. You won't be disappointed!
