Default Offline GPS?

Hi all

My friend has a 2008 Range Rover Sport and the GPS doesn't do anything. When its turned on, it doesn't show where we are and doesn't appear to be trying to find out. I'm guessing its because Nigeria doesn't have companies that provide navigation and maybe the actual map data is missing.

What I do know is that the roads are mapped because I've used Google and BlackBerry maps on my smartphone and they work. What I'd like to know is if there is a way to download map information to be used offline by the car? I assume it has a GPS receiver so it can find out where it is.

What about hooking up a smartphone screen to it to mirror?

Thanks
