Oil Filters for the RR 02 p38
#11
OEM for Land Rover is Cooper, so if you order an OEM filter from one of the land rover parts houses then it's the same as what the dealer is installing, it just says "Cooper" instead of "Land Rover" on it.
If you're having the dealer change your oil the only reason I can see buying the filters your self is if you want to use the longer filters like the Wix 51515 or Baldwin B2. Otherwise it's probably a wash between your time spent getting the short ones and what the dealer charges.

Some guys do not like the Fran ones but they can be good filters if you change the oil like you should. I tend to use Mobil 1 and K&N a lot. The K&N are quite a bit more but there are things I like. They tend to come off easier and they are a great quality set up. Plus I like the nut thing on the bottom to make it easier to get off.
If you drive a lot I see buying a case, but if you drive normally you may only 4 or 5 a year and so buying all the time does not always make sense in the Cash on hand department unless you are getting a screaming deal.

Sounds like the K&N is more money and easier to find than some of the others you have mentioned, but the better filter. And so thats what I'll be going with. My RR still has the old fashioned oil in it not sure if I'm ready for the leap to synthetic oil. Thanks everyone for all your comments on the matter.

K&N is certainly fine, you're just paying a minimum of 20% more than you need too, in comparison to Mobil 1. And probably 50% more overall than you need, compared to other quality filters.
Here's the "bible" on oil filters.

When you're reading about filters, note that Mobil 1 and K&N are made by Champion Labs, who also make some of the crappiest filters on the market. So don't assume all Champion Labs filters are good. They make crap ones and good ones both.
