Default Possible 99 Purchase, what to look for?

I currently have a Discovery 1, I am looking at a 99 RR with 135K on the clock. The guy is asking $5k for it and it looks in good shape. The onlu things I can see wrong are that the climate control does not light up (it works though) and there are some small dents on the body. What should I be looking for other than maintenence records which it has some. Thanks!

Check the airbags condition... chances are if they haven't been replaced they are pretty well worn and will need to be replaced soon. Same with tires. Both are extremely costly for Rovers. Run the EAS system through all it's paces and make sure the compressor is in good working condition. If any of these things need work work you may try offering less considering the market. 5K sounds a bit steep to me considering dents and climate control problems (probably cost you a couple hundred bucks for the ATC unless you get a used one). Let us know if you pick her up!

Regards

P38's have the worst record of any Rover built, I would give this some serious thought before you go any farther.

That is what I am trying to figure out. I love the D1 and have wroked out my issues with it lately and it runs great. My wife feels I need something newer and more upscale than my D1. I know the suspension has been an area of issue for the Rover so I did look at it well and everything worked fine. I found the temp control unit from Roverland parts for $275.

Mike, where is the major service issue or area for the P38? Should I be looking at a D2 instead? I am just tmepted to live with my D1 and let it be.

Thanks,

Disco's are less finicky here is a RR link to look at, if you are still game this will also help in times of need. I have had 5 disco's and now a 02 RR I love my truck. http://www.rangerovers.net/newrremedies.htm#intro

Wow, that is all that is wrong with them huh.

There was not much that really scared me, it is older and has some mileage so hopefully some of these things either will not happen or already have. I talked ot the guy today and he said he would take $4400 for it. I get the impression he needs the money in this economy, maybe I can get down to $4K.

There is only one dent in the front fender and it is really small so I feel that I can live with that.

Thank you for posting that link, I am sure I will be reviewing that if I decide to buy it. Any other help is greatly appreciated.
