Default Rear view mirror woes

99 RR 4.0. rv mirror broke then about two months later windshield cracked. replaced windshield and went to get a new mirror and learned the oem auto dimming would set me back $300. thought about installing cheap aftermarket from autozone but new windshield has metal mounting plate for oem and the glass guy didn't want to attempt to remove it fearing the windshield would crack. is there a mirror that will fit the oem mount that doesn't cost 3bills? i've heard manual mirrors from the 97-98 disco's work but want to check before investing. TIA.

Mine fogged up, idk if yours did. You can try ebay and then just leave the auto dim unplugged so it doesn't happen again. I ended up "fixing" mine. Since it is an LCD dimmer, I just broke the front part of the mirror and pulled the glass out (there are two layers, one is glass, the other is the mirror). This reveals the mirror underneath. I cleaned the LCD crap off the mirror and re attached it to the windshield. I left the auto dimmer unplugged so the computer wouldn't get confused and fry itself since the lcd part of the mirror was gone.

You can always try Roverlandparts.com and see how much they are asking for one, I am sure it will be half of what you are finding from a dealer or someone like that.
