Not trying to sound brash or anything, but have you tried smacking it on the counter or anything to see if it will start working. Believe it or not, I had an LR3 key quit working on a customer, checked for sent signal from the remote, no signal being sent, smacked it on the counter a couple times, and it started sending a signal/working.(Under warranty still replaced the key of course)
Try it and see what happens, you have nothing to lose, the connections to the batteries or the circuit board itself will be the cause.

I took apart my disco 2 remote when it was not working only to find that the button you press on (inside ) the solder holding it to the board broke. I re soldered it and it worked again for a while until it came loose again.
