I have a 1997 Range rover with 130k miles. When I accelerate it begins to shake. And after I get passed 50mph it starts to really shake and the steering feels a little loose. I feel like it's the ball joints but does anyone else have this problem?

 

A ball joint could be the problem. Jack up the tire, grab onto the front and back of the tire, "jiggle" it back and forth. Look/feel for play.

Rock stuck in tire?
Tires out of balance?
Tire warped?

These all happened to me, and they all fee a little different.

 

up & down for ball joints, side to side for tie rods. also check the steering shaft under the hood I had to replace mine in my 90rrc the u-joints in the shaft were gone.

 

grab the panhard rod and shake it forcefully to check the bushings for play

 

The bushings look fine, and the guy i bought it from did say the tie rod ends need to be replaced. I just got them in. Now comes the fun of putting them in

 

the tie rods are real rather easy, soak them with a good penetrating oil the night before.

What kind of penetrating oil would you recommend?

 

Would KY work?

 

WD-40, PB Blaster, CRC. Every one has a favorite.

And KY would not work, maybe if you wanted to condition the leather!
