Default The softdash LWB turned P38 diesel swap thread...

I've always threatened to switch from a D1 to a LWB for my overlanding build if only I could find one...

Well one came up. It's missing the engine/tcase (was a candidate for another build) but the body and interior are in great shape. 1995. Is this too good an offer to pass up? I know nothing about RRC's aside from the wikipedia page.
It would be a convenient roller for my 6.2d...

1995 Soft Dash Range Rover LWB CLASSIC --Project--

EDIT: Tried to rename the thread because it went off topic rather quickly, but with some interesting info and discussions.

Why are you asking and not at his house with a fistful of money. If you want it you better get over there and look at it.

RRC's are great vehicles and with a lt230 swap are better than a disco in my eyes.

I've been told that particular combo is very difficult to find, that's why I'm asking. But I only know my discos, nothing about Range Rovers.

Really the same beasts in most ways. Lt230 is a quick easy swap.

I'd worry about the details after it was mine...... prime transplant candidate.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Unfortunately my wife much prefers the P38 - as as far as creature comforts (remember - long range overland build) I sort of agree. Just trying to decide if it's realistic to swap in a tranny from a disco to mate with my diesel... Would that bolt up to the BW case?

If it where me I would find an 07 and above 1/2 ton GM with an LS/6 speed and grab an adapter for the LT230. Then you'd have a ride that rivals the P38 and probably a little smoother (P38's are fairly stiff sprung) and have great fuel mileage plus no futzing around with it to keep it going on the road. Modern running gear with classic skin.

I like the P38's too but they're a gamble and in order to have the best running gear they should be 2000 - 2002 variety. I'm just not a fan of the BeCM having so much control over my day.

But if I ditch the electric -24 for a hydraulic -22 and my fully mechanical diesel the P38 is an otherwise mechanical, live axled 4x4, right? I know the BW is electric, but I haven't heard any particular horror stores about it going wrong.

And assuming it wasn't done by the PO a coil swap is fairly easy.

Don't forget the BCM controlling your windows, sunroof, seats, lights, climate control, oh hell everything inside. Remember no locking the diff in a BW transfer case. So upgraded diffs and functional traction control are going to be very important.

RRC has all the same goodies maybe not as advanced but in a much more reliable way.
