Default which spring - medium or heavy duty?

Just looking over the rear components in our 88 RRC, I noticed that some boosters had been knitted into the right rear spring. The truck sits at stock height - running 225/75-16 tires. I noticed that I can get medium or heavy duty springs - just wonder what folks recommend. We plan of camping and going off-road with this truck, but heavy duty to me implies heavy trailer or lift requirements I don't have.

Thanks!

If you not putting exposition gear on i.e.. bumpers, roof racks, rock slider, you will be fine with the med duty. Heavy duty springs without weight on them ride worse then worn out springs.

Thanks for the reply drowssap. I've been harvesting parts off of a 1990 RRC in a wrecking yard near me and it's quite a nice carcass. A dash fire totalled it, but all the body parts are straight and rust free, and the mechanicals are all pretty decent. I think I'll see if I can get the springs off the back today. If they're saggy when I put them on the '88, I'll order up the medium duty instead.

The '90 does have a different looking link than the '88 - will that impact the type of springs used as opposed to what's on the '88? Since RRC springs are sold across all model years the same, I didn't think there would be a difference.

Thanks

I assume the spring will interchange just take care removing them the Boge self-leveling strut will still be loaded.

Thanks for the warning. The donor truck is sitting on stacked steel rims, so I'm going to ask that the yard pick it up and unburden the springs before I go in and clamp on the compressors. I'm not sure the extra risk in removal is worth the $150 savings

If you can get to the rear shocks, if you unbolt those, when they pick up the truck with the fork lift or whatever, the springs will probably just fall out.... no compressor required. One guy over on the defender source really likes the later RRC springs (the lower trim models without air suspension). He says they ride very nice, and he put them (or is putting them) in his Defender.

The yard decided in the end that they did not want to lift the truck for me, and my compressors won't compress enough with the axle partially loaded to remove the spring (guess how long I worked on it before giving up . So, I decided I'd give a set of Dobinson's a try. Thanks for all the advice.
