Tata Might Move to Diamler for Engines!
FRANKFURT: Ratan Tata, is mulling closer cooperation with German premium carmaker Daimler, German magazine Focus reported.
The report said Tata was looking for a new engine supplier for its Jaguar and Land Rover units, which it bought from Ford for $2.3 billion earlier this year.
The magazine report added that Tata had met Daimler managers in India and South Africa over the past weeks, discussing a possible cooperation.
Daimler confirmed that a meeting between Tata and Mercedes Chief Operating Officer Rainer Schmueckle had taken place, but declined to give further details, Focus said.
Daimler was not immediately available for comment. Tata also could not immediately be reached for comment.

Would be interesting. Would really screw Ford though especially if Aston ends up working with MB in some aspects, like it looks like. Ford would have less incentive and capital to invest in development. Would be pretty significant for Diamler. And could end up being very beneficial to Land Rover. I'm open to it... as long is it's just for engines!

RE: Tata Might Move to Diamler for Engines!
I think their current engines are great and don't see much of a point in changing them. Getting a Daimler engine could either be really good or REALLY bad and I hope its for the better. It seems that Land Rover and Jaguar never really decide on an engine to go with for over 5 years... just things I've noticed over the years. But, everytime Land Rover upgrades its engines, its for the better. I remember the P38 and Classic RR had Buick engines in them and don't really care for those engines. The BMW engine seemed to be faster and more efficient than the buick engines but the buick engines were much cheaper to repair (because you can use GM parts on it that cost $50 instead of $500). The Jaguar engine has really impressed me with its reliablity, performance, and efficency. I just hope if LR does decide to use Daimler engines that it is even better than the Jaguar engine. We shall see.
