Default Trans fluid and filter renewal -03 RR

The manual says the gearbox is sealed for life - no maintenace interval indicated.

I have a hard time believing this. My vehicle has 80K miles. I changed the fluid on my Disco every 30K miles and it has 200K and going strong.

Has anyone changed the trans fluid/screen on their '03 to '05 RR? If so, can you tell me what the cost was?

Opinions welcome.

Thanks
Bob

Default RE: Trans fluid and filter renewal -03 RR

it should be changed at 150k miles. fill for life means that it doesnt need regular service and should not be topped off. it uses a special fluid, made by esso, cheaper if you get it for a bmw x5. there is a very special procedure to refill it, and it needs to be followed exactly. fill pan, start engine, go through gears and with internal trans fluid temp between 35 and 40 degress C, topped off rest of the way in nuetral. even 1 degree over will cause problems, this fluid is very sensitive to tempurature. this is also internal temp, you will not get the same reading from the lines, its temp of the sensor.
