Default The Waving rule

One thing that was really interesting to me was that when I first drove a Defender, I noticed that every other Land Rover driver waved at me when on the road. I got my D2 four years ago and people still wave - I joined in! It's a Land Rover / Range Rover thing where owners wave at each other.

Except recently, I have noticed a lot of newer owners do NOT wave. In fact, some of them look at you like you're a bit of an idiot for waving at them!

Be it known: LR/RR drivers are supposed to wave at each other! It's a community thing! Just another thing that separates us from many other drivers on the road.

Apparently it's a culture that began with English farmers in the 50's after the launch of the Series 1 and has spread around the world and stood the test of time. We have a strong waving culture. But a lot of people simply aren't aware!

So if you don't do this - start today! It's a lot of fun!

It's also a way to know who's a real LR/RR enthusiast (a waver) and who's just a poser or is not "in the know" (non-waver).

So, if you see another LR or Range Rover on the road, don't be a sore old chap, give us a honk or a wave!

If you dont wave its a Rover violation.. two violations and WE remove them from the club.. were in a small town so its easy to remember the offenders.

I've owned rovers since 1996. Use to get more pronounced waives. I think now, there are so many more 2d hand rovers on the market, i see more in my area, where they use to be very very rare, just becoming more of the crowd, rather than standing out in the crowd. I see much less waiving today also. I waive at the Lr3s, the Lr4s, other rovers, but they seem preoccupied today with something else, less appreciative of other rover owners.

I don't ever see any Land Rovers. If I do, I wave. Once I did a quick wipe of my windshield wipers. The other guy did it too. That was fun.

I think the newer RR owners are less enthusiasts and more status seekers, though some do wave to those of us in vintage Rovers. Where I live, there are a fair number of Rover enthusiasts, and a lot of new RRs and RRSs. My RRC really sticks out now, as there aren't many RRCs around.

I never get a wave from Range Rovers or Freelanders. Ever. They look at me like I am trying to carjack them with a wave of my hand.

LRX drivers rarely wave. Maybe one in ten. It catches me by surprise.

I get a wave from Discos 80 percent of the time if the driver is male. I am in a Disco II.

I always get a wave from modified Discos (bumper, lights, whatever) and everything from stock to expedition Defenders. Modified Defenders with dull paint stop and talk to show off their stuff whenever I show willingness.

I should add that where I live, it is considered rude not to wave or raise one finger (index, while on steering wheel) when passing another vehicle on any two lane road, and land rovers are rare and considered exotic. When I get a parking ticket it says "Toyota" half of the time and I beat the ticket. In traffic the wave is entirely optional.

With the tinted windows on my D1, I don't think most people can see me wave..

I tried waving at a lifted white DII with roof rack and 16" oem rover wheels and an ARB bumper....he looked at me like I was crazy. I mean wtf? It's a P38...some respect bro please!
