Default '03 Freelander Coolant Leak Question

I have read through all of the threads regarding coolant leaks on these
vehicles and I still have a few questions regarding my leak that may be
a little unique.

The first sign of a problem came when I noticed that the heater was only
blowing hot air when the car was moving - otherwise it was cold air.

A day later the car's thermostat went into the red but did not release
any steam like a normal over heating vehicle would. I pulled over and
filled the coolant ball to the appropriate level. Ever since this
happened I have been replacing coolant pretty frequently.

Whats unique about this is that I can't seem to find a common frequency
for replacing coolant. At first I thought check it every day. Then it
was on every fill up. Then I tried every 50 miles or so and it was
never consistent.

It seemed like if we had a run of VERY cold days (~10 deg) I would have to fill
the coolant much more often. Even though every day has been cold (~35 deg) and I
run the heater every day, only on the VERY cold days did I have to
refill the coolant every day. During a stretch of just average
northeast cold days there were times when I could check it on my
fill-ups and not even have to add coolant.

I have checked the oil and it is not milky. I also don't find any
moisture coming out of he exhaust. There really isn't any smell of
coolant in the car either.

Any suggestions?

You need to go have a shop do a coolant pressure test, this will pinpoint the leak quickly.

remove the accoustic cover, (big black cover on top of engine) and with a light look into the valley or center of engine if you see coolant collecting there probable t-stat leak. seems to be a common problem area on the freelander.
