I finally figured out why I couldn't post on this thread earlier!

I have a 1996 Discovery SE7 w/ 106,000 miles. Latest problem has been the engine ECU. I replaced the corroded ECU (along with one of the female plugs that was corroded) with a used one from a 1997 Disco and now it actually starts but runs like crap. Idles up to 2500 rpms in park/neutral and when in drive it's about stall out at stop lights. Today driving at 45 mph heard rattling and it hesitates. Question: can you replace with ECUs from different years and possbily different countries (my used supplier gets most of his vehicles from the UK and I'm in the US) or is this idle thing not related to the replacement ECU and now I may have a relay issue? My 1996 Discovery had NO idle problems before replacing the bad engine ECU, it actually ran like a top before.

Different years, different countries, completely different, I would suggest you find a 96 ECU from the states, they are out there on line.

I found this one on eBay, it says it works for any 1996 through 1999 4.0 discovery. Also has a thirty day warranty. If you don't trust eBay then I would try to request one from carcannibal.com
