Default 1997 P38 4.0 se

Hello everyone. glad I found this forum! I'm from Connecticut and love my p38 and it's problems. Mine is a 1997 4.0se. I parked it for a while and now I'm trying to get back into it and found myself a parts donor if it's compatible. Can anyone tell me if the 02 4.6 she is compatible. Not including the difference between the gems and Bosch. Any help would be fantastic.

Hi. You should post your questions in the P38 section. Unfortunately there are a lot of parts that aren’t compatible (but lots that are). If I lived closer to you I’d like to buy the engine for my Disco 2. If you off road it, you may want the front diff from the 02 in your 97, as well as the traction control. There’s a somewhat involved method of upgrading your GEMS traction control from rear wheel only to all 4 wheels.

I can't say with total authority, but dropping a Bosch into a GEMS truck will take some doing. Also, there were many changes made in 1999 in the P38.

I would consult rangerovers.net for all things P38. Richard_G has been a valuable source of information to me.

Thanks for looking out. I'm not putting the 4.6 in my 97. I'm buying the 4.6 rover to gut the interior and install in mine. Also using the windshield. Then I'm gonna store the trans and transfer case in case I ever need it. Pretty much gonna use everything I can from the 02 that'll fit my 97. Probably sell the motor and whatever else I can't use after. My 97 has sentimental value so I won't part with it. It's got it's quarks but it never let me down until I let it down by parking it for 3 years.
