Default 2001 Discovery II

Hey everyone I'm brand new to Disco 2, bough one off a guy for 1500. Body Wise it looks great, interior it good too, but it has a over heating probelm. Put in a new thermostat hoping that would slove the problem and it didn't, got it on the road.and the engine temp shot up and it overheated on me, was able to start up.up again and it it to its destination before it cut off again.the old owner has water for coolant?

most likely needs head gaskets, stop driving it.
How long did the last owner drive it like that?

I'm not sure, he said it started overheating and he parked it up. To be honest I don't think he knew how to maintain the disco, coolant replace by water, cheap gas and regular oil. I paid literally nothing for it, so I'm ready to open the wallet but if I can't get passed the overheating then I'm just dead in the water.

well go get some coolant, a pressure tester and co2 tester.
get rid of the water and pressure test the cooling system looking for something simple,
if no luck test the coolant for traces of C02.
if it is head gasket parts are only approx. $300.00

New Problem, The ACE fluid resivor was empty so I added more and now it's all over the ground, not sure if it's a hose or something else? Going on the lift today and also investigating the over heating probelm.

It was a blown head gasket, she's running like a champ now. Next step is finding a metal bumper to replace the stock front one. And winch system, aux Light etc...

what all was replaced as parts of the cooling system? Obviously something was at fault... causing higher-than-normal coolant temperatures and expediting the head-gasket failure.
