2001 Discovery SE ACe and Air Suspension
Just moved ffrom a 96 Discovery to a 2001 Discovery SE. The Disco has the ACE system...very nice to drive, can really feel it in the corners. My only complaint is the "whining" noise that it is producing. Poor man tested the front end of the engine (long screw driver to the part and to my ear) Found that the noise is coming from the ACE unit.
I assume there is no lubing or servicing to do on this part. Doing a road trip day after tomorrow (Denver to Seatle) and just want to know the unit isn't going to blow up and the whining is to be expected. Once I get to highway speed 65-75 the whining disipates. Very noticable in city driving to the point where passengers ask what the sound is!
Just want peice of mind right now...just so happens the stereo is very nice and can drown the low speed acceleration noise.
More posts to come...I'm sure, any help is appreciated. This Discovery also comes equiped with the air ride suspension...looking for some insight on what people think about it.

Hey Ben,
I have learned to live with the noise and ACE seems to be working fine. A great system minus the noise of course. I was thinking about doing a flush on the system as Mike was suggesting but in no rush. My test, with the truck running, was to place the end of a screw driver on the ACE pump and put it up to your ear, then put it to other parts. It was obvious where the noise was coming from.
I drove the truck a few thousand miles since the last post and am in Canada currently with no issues with ACE
Mike is the man! pick his brain for some good insight!
