Default 2003 Disco ll- coolant type

I am actually new here, and have recently bought a disco ll with 120k miles. I was wondering, since it's coolant level is running low, what type of coolant is best or recommend for this truck?

Stay away from Dex-cool coolant!
Use the green type in color and a 50/50 mixture. Leave a little bit of room for some water wetter coolant additive.

You can buy it premade - 50/50 but it's cheaper if you buy it 100% coolant and add your own distilled water (I keep an old 2-litre of it in the Rover with me at all times - just fill it half way with water and then half way with coolant and mix). They sell both 50/50 and full strength at Autozone. If you're female though - watch out, they'll try to trip you up on whether you know what you're doing, that you may not want to buy the green type as it isn't recommended for vehicles manufactured after a certain date and 'oh wait a minute' - you DO know that you have to add water to it, yada yada yada..

I suppose they are just trying to do their job but it comes off as if they think you're a dimwit that doesn't have half a brain as to what is going on....

But back to thread.. you can buy either - already diluted or full strength. Just make sure you add 50/50 to your reservoir tank. And welcome to the forum!

Money isn't a problem, I just want to know what's best. I'd rather buy it pre-made

It's not a matter of 'best' - coolant is coolant. You either prefer to mix it yourself (and have it last longer) or you take the lazy route (ie; more expensive) and buy it pre-made. Everything is about convenience today and people pay extra for that convenience. With that comes choices. You either choose to pay extra or you choose not to pay extra. Sometimes I prefer to pay extra to get the job done right as I don't trust myself to do it correctly or I don't have the time. Other times I take a gamble and roll the dice, do it myself and save some money. A penny saved is a penny earned. In the instance of coolant, I prefer to buy the 100%, and mix it myself because I know that is something that I can do, without screwing anything up..

It's your choice - only you can make it. Money or no money, that is the question.

If coolant low and just adding coolant it's not recommended to mix different types. If it's already been changed to green and has proper ratio using the premix green is fine and no need to add distilled water to as with 100%.
......
