Hello everyone. I have just purchased a 2003 freelander SE3 2.5v6. It runs great apart from it idles at 2000 rpm when cold, and then only drops to 1700 rpm when warm. I have tripple checked all vacuum hoses, which are good, cleaned the electronic vale body, and installed a new air filter. I am at a dead loss, and was wondering if maybe it could be a problem with the ecm or tach guage. I was wondering if any seasoned owners out there could shed some light on other possible causes? The vehicle did sit unused for 9 months as the last owners bought a smaller car.

 

Wait STOP !!!! That's how its suppose to work !!!!! ....

Some vehicles come with an Automatic Choke System .... this means when you start from cold without touching the accelerator at all ... it goes to a set RPM ,and revs until it reaches operating temperature... then the idle would drop to normal , its fitted to cars designed for really cold countries...

If it scares you ....when you start up and it starts to high rev ... tap the accelerator about 5 seconds after starting ( one tap should do it )( and it will cancel the "cold start " and the engine will go back to idle at normal speed ...

 

Thanks for the reply It's been driving me insane,lol At least she has had a thorough check over . I could'nt understand it because it drives like a dream. I am hoping to get a safety done on it next week then I can take it for a good drive Thanks for your help
