Default 2004 Freelander... advice!???

Hi guys,

we have a 2004 Freelander in the garage currently not running. The big expense we're considering is the timing belt repair, of which I'm told there are three on this vehicle. I'm looking at approximately 2300 bucks (I'm told) to replace them, and haven't even figured in labor, towing, and possible additional repair costs. We basically parked the vehicle in the garage when we were told how much we'd need to spend on this particular repair.

Background: have about 4 grand to pay off the vehicle. Need a four-wheel drive, but aren't sure if the costs will be worth the maintenance of this vehicle. Finally, any ideas of we decide against repairs? Thanks!

Mr. Smith

Where did you get the repair quote? Are you able to do the work yourself? Did the timing belts break? Skip teeth? Any damage done to the engine?

I haven’t checked on all prices but I think for the belt kit, upper end kit including head gaskets, ARP head stud kit, antifreeze, and a few bits and ends.. should be under 1200
