2008 LR3 Fuel Gauge

2008 LR3 Fuel Gauge
We recently had a gas shortage where I live, and because of this their was no premium gas. I filled up my tank with regular gas. I drove around for a few days and my fuel gauge went from Full to half. Once the gauge went below half, it jumped right back up to full. I figured the regular gas had something to do with this, so I filled my tank up with premium. The gauge started working and I thought I was out of the clear. But, once again when the needle went below half it jumped right back up to full.
So I have done some research and called my local dealer (they just say replace the tank....$2200), it sounds like one of the sender units are faulty. The front sender is in the tank (which is almost impossible to remove) the other is connected to the fuel pump.
My questions are
1- Has anybody had this problem with the gauge saying full and not Empty all the time?
2- How can I check to see if the back sender is the problem and not the front sender?
3- Can I just replace the back sender with out replacing the fuel pump?
Thanks in advance.
New to this forum! My wife and have owned Land Rovers for a while now. Her car hasn't given her any problems (LR2). My LR3 hasn't given me any problems, until the last month (compressor, starter, and now the fuel gauge). When it rains it pours!
