I recently change the oil in a 2016 LR 4. When I go to the service menu or level display it is still showing below minimums. I extracted all of the oil out from the prior oil change and added 8 1/2 quarts. After that I had an additional half a quart and it still showing below minimums. Prior to this I added more and more until I had added about 12 quarts, all while it continued to show below minimum. I then extracted every bit that I had put back in, and did it again sitting at 9 quarts. The owners manual shows that the oil capacity of the LR4 is 8.45 US quarts. This is not the first time that I have done an oil change, but the first time that I have encountered this problem. I’m looking for any tips and tricks that I may have missed.

I'm assuming it's the same as my 2013 LR4. Does the oil level display screen also state "Not Available"? If the vehicle has been started after changing the oil, like most people do, you'll need to wait at least 10 minutes before checking the level. There is some fancy timer to make sure the oil has time to settle after the vehicle has been running. I almost added more oil at my first oil change due to this as well. They really should have no gauge level displayed at all if it's going to say "Not Available". If you don't want to wait, there is a way to bypass the 10 minutes. I'd have to look it up as I don't remember offhand, but it has something to do with having the hood open, maybe drivers door too, and then you go to the oil level screen and hit a button on the steering wheel 2 times. You should be able to find it with a little research.

Wait 10 min
Yes sir I did wait the 10 minutes, and after that it still shows that it’s too low. That’s when I was adding, and I added more than It’s capacity. At that point it was well beyond what should be in there and it was still showing that it was too low.

I just created a new thread after unsuccessfully running a search and finding nothing. Then yours popped up. I have the same problem with the ‘not available’ indication. Only in my case, it’s been like that for a full day of driving it. So did you ever find a fix for this?

I still need to replace the sensor. I pulled out the fresh oil and made sure the put in the proper amount. I’ve been driving it and need to get on the ball and replace. I’m planning on doing it at next oil change.

I came across this problem and have found out that to get an accurate reading the engine has to be off for 30 minutes to allow the oil to drop back down i found that it is best just before you start it for the first time of the day, you just unlock the vehicle and then WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE turn on the ignition press the multi function ok switch then go to the service menu click on oil level and you will get the correct readout for how much oil you have in the engine, if the reading is at minimum and it says not available then you have not left it standing long enough if so just go back in and have a cup of tea then try again.
hope this helps someone to get the correct reading and prevents you putting to much oil in.

I'm concerned my wife's LR4 is having the same issue. I'm about to do my change I'll measure what I extract and put in and compare. At least it's an affordable part but the removal of the oil pan to get it out has got to suck. UGH I found this video showing it's install.
