94 Discovery NO START (Fuel Pump?)
Okay so I went into the Florida Everglades last weekend with a few Jeeps and another discovery.
at times we had water up to the bumpers while on a trail ride......
In fact at one point we got stuck and had to back out 1/2 a mile in low lock to get out.
The carpet and Jute got soaked and they are pulled up to dry from the other day. I noticed it ran sluggish after I got it home (Stumbling etc. But figured it was just drying out again like the week before. Then it ran fine for a couple days. Now it will not start at all. I checked the coil wiring, Ignition wires etc. (Fine).... I then pulled the kick panel out to check the relays etc. All were dry and looked to be in good shape.
I then went and bought starting fluid (Pyroil) at Advanced and sprayed that into the Intake/TB.... It cranked right over like all was ok. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
Then it died after about 10 seconds of run time. I did this a few more times with the same result......[sm=wtf.gif]
Fuel filter and Fuel Pump relay were replaced 2 months ago......
When I checked the fuel pump by pulling off the cover it seemed dry but who knows I submerged the back end of the Disco for a good period of time and could see a good inch+ of water in the hatch at times (Yes I know) [sm=badidea.gif] [sm=icon_beat.gif]
We were 1/2 mile in in the Everglade Holey Lands and it was either this or duck Gators to get out alive. Unlike Moab we have live maneating predators to contend with LOL
When I checked the seal for the Fuel pump cover only 2 screws were in it and it was not tightend fully so I am assuming water got into this area and shorted the pump maybe???
What should I check next Power to the pump at the multi plug????..... I just want to make sure before I spend the money for a pump...... Although I think this is it because I had to replace the relay 2 months ago and typically those go bad from the strain of a Fuel pump on the way out....[sm=helpout.gif]
Oh well the price you pay for going "serious off roading".......
Thanks to the board and Disco Mike for your help in advance

Well I Checked the Rover again and tested the voltage at the Multi Plug.... It is only getting 5.4 Volts at the Fuel Pump.... Whereas for example I get 12 volts + at the Cigarette lighter when the key is in run postion.
I pulled the fuel pump fuse and there was no change to the 5.4 volt reading I get back by the Fuel pump.
I changed the fuel pump relay for a brand new one and still the same thing.[sm=headbang.gif]
I am beginning to think you are on track Mike....AGAIN!
What should I do now.....?... I looked at the computer in the Kick panel to see if it can be pulled down and looked at but it is way up in there and I think I need tiny hands to get in there unless I am missing something...... or maybe a bad ground somewhere???.... Something is definitely not right I would think I should have 12 V plus at the fuel pump..... and the only wire giving me voltage is the green one out of the four wires in the Harness.......
We will beat this one together!!![sm=partyparty.gif]

So this morning my daughter and I before going to work diagnosed more of the issue.....
Apparently you only get the 12 volts when the key is turned in the 1st 5 seconds. The Key wire is the White/Purple and corresponding ground..... Note of the four wires in the fuel pump harness I assume the Green/Black is for the Sender voltage at 5.4
I am getting solid 12+ Volts now that I know you have to look for it in the 1st 5 seconds
The puzzle is solved I think
I ordered a new (Used) fuel pump that should be in tomorrow..... then the surgery begins....
I have a new filter, new relay, am getting spark and itcatches on starting fluid.....
I will report back after I come back from the operating table mua ha ha ha

Ireceived theused fuel pump assembly today in @ Work...... Went down after dinner and Installed (Not easy to get retaining ring off) Used a Flathead and a Hammer and did pretty well with it.... When complete truck fired right up.
IT IS ALIVE ONCE MORE!!! Thanks for the Help....
Tomorrow night off to vacumn out the back at gas station and buy new fastners for the Pump Cover plate.
I have now graduated to Lucas Fuel Injection specialist Assistant in training!!!!
