95 Discovery power train

My Discovery was running and then just stopped....the engine was on but no acceleration. I coasted to a place to pull off the road and would not move....not drive nor reverse. Had it towed home. Any clue what to check? Money is tight but I love my baby!

What happens when you press the gas pedal?
Does the engine rev but the truck does not move?
Or does the engine speed not increase?

CDL shifter slipped out of high position? That would be if truck acts like it is always in neutral, revs up, but no forward or reverse. Tranny fluid level OK? Changed this century? This year? Last year?

As a former teenager, I can attest to the fact that many transmissions fail first in one direction, and yes Mom, I blew the Desoto's squalling the tires and backed it five miles home....

Fluids are fine but do need to be changed. No idea the CDL shifter but that is the way it sounds. The engine does rev up but nothing happens.

The CDL (transfer box) shifter operation is described in the owners handbook. If you don't have one:
It's the shorter knob right at the front of the center console, slightly left of the main shifter.

All the way forward is low range, middle is neutral, all the way rearwards is high range.
To the right is open center diff (for on pavement driving), to the left is locked center diff (for off-road driving or snow covered roads).

Apply the foot brake and place the transmission in Neutral
Move the transfer shifter as far right as possible. You may need to wiggle it forward and backwards slightly while trying to move it to the right. With it in the Neutral position it should move to the far right then back. If you can't get it to come back, leave it in neutral and move the transmission shifter momentarily to D or R (if a manual transmission put it in any gear and let out the clutch, then depress the clutch again)
The transfer case shifter should then move back to high range.

If you can get it in high range and the vehicle still won't move then you likely have a component failure in the transfer case.

Try the above and post back if it works or not.

Also, read the owners handbook if you have one, or download the Rave manual which has one in it and read it.

here's some pages, if you like what you see you can down load a full version of the RAVE below and it will be better resolution.

If your diff lock lever is not frozen, move it to the left and activate the diff lock
if the vehicle now moves you more than likely blew out a front cv joint

Broke axle, cv, differential or drive shaft. If the t case is in the right position, like he said lock the cdl and if it moves you have a broke component some where.
