96 D1 Caster Arms
Can I take the caster arms off the truck with it on the ground ?
I'm going to re-bush them.. I'll do them one at a time..
I just don't want to get one off and then have to mess with jacking it up..
If the axle needs to be hanging then I'll wait till I can get it into the shop and on stands next week...
Thanks
John

I don't think there's a bushing in there (at least from the factory) I looked at Microcat and they don't list a bushing, maybe you could make one (or have one made), especially considering the price of a replacement. LAND ROVER PARTS - STEERING BOX MOUNT DEFENDER RANGE ROVER DISCO (RN calls this a steering box mount, Microcat calls it a "Arm-Radius, front suspension"
$813.00
or... Contact Paul Grant about a used one.

Hmmm.. I cleaned out some "remains" of what appeard to be rust from the shell of a bushing...I guess I can find a suitable piece of something to take up the slack.. The bolt that goes thru is is the same size as the one visible in the picture...

In regards to removing the radius arms, it could possibly be done. But, it the front axle should be on stands just in case alignment will need to be done while refitting.
You can pull both arms at the same time. Chock the wheels, the driveshaft should keep the axle in place if you're not driving. When you reinstall the radius arms put the frame side in first. Then line up one of the axle holes and slide a bolt through. You can then gently rock the truck back/forth to help line up the second hole. Repeat on the other side.
As far as that bushing, I don't think there is one. Can't think why there would be.

Thanks for the answer on the arms..
Now for that bushing that's not supposed to be there...
See pic... You're telling me that these parts are supposed to fit together like this ?

I'll make a spacer before I let that thing go like that...

Well yeah, the other one looks like it has a sleeve. Is it a steel sleeve? Any idea where it went?
All I got out of the hole was rust...
I'm assuming that it was from the "shell" of a bushing.
I laid it on the local Range Rover dealership.. They're trying to find out if there is a bushing for it..
Right now I'm considering my options.. I can put a couple of shock bushings in there to take up the space.. Or I can make a metal spacer to the required dimensions... I have no faith that I'll hear back from the dealership...

If you look at the picture of the new part (in the link I posted) it shows that hole as bigger than the other one, looks like maybe there is a bushing pressed in there, but it still doesn't look like the hole is as small as that bolt. I wasn't saying that there isn't a bushing, just that the parts manual doesn't list one separately. (although there is a chance that there is a bushing listed in some other section that I couldn't find, sometimes British logic is unfathomable
)
