just picked this up. will not start without the help of starting fliud. when running she runs good. will do s quick turn-around start.

You need to start with the basics, plugs and wires, air filter.

 

Sounds like a fuel issue.
Turn key to position II. RUN to the back of truck with cargo door open. Stick your ear to the floor. You should be able to hear the pump running. It only runs for a few seconds in position II so you have to be quick.
Do a search for Fuel Pump in the Discovery I section.
