97 Disco Fuel Related Problem
Hello All,
I have a '97 Discovery SE with about 155K miles. Each day, it takes a little while to start at first, but always cranks up. If I drive for about an hour or so nonstop, turn the truck off, and then try to restart within a few minutes, the truck will not start up. It's acting as if the engine is flooding itself while driving. There's a strong smell of gas after a while also. After it sits for about an hour, it starts back up and runs fine. From reading on the net, it sounds like it could be a problem with the fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump. Any suggestions??? I'm a music producer / studio engineer that works with computers... cars aren't my expertise!! Thanks!

Start by having the fuel filter replaced, its on the frame behind the right rear wheel.
Next have the fuel pressure tested, you can do this yourself, rent a fuel pressure test kit from AutoZone.
On the engine, looking at it from the front, left side, is what looks like a tire valve, hook the fuel PSI tester to it, hook it up first thing in the morning before turning on the key.
Now turn on the key, what PSI? Needs to be over 32.
I am assuming the strong fuel smell is when trying to start it when hot.
