Cool 97' Disco Restart Issues

Good day Land Rover Forum

I have a 1997 Land Rover Discovery and having a restart issue. It starts up and runs beautifully, but when I turn off the engine and try to restart it up again, it fails to start up again. After 15 minutes or so, it will start up and run beautifully again! My head is going to burst and have a spot from scratching. Any suggestions and knowledgeable help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Rick

Default Might be a Faulty Starter Solenoid

Think I have found the answer to my own Forum Question. Going to install a new starter, the solenoid seems to be acting up as solenoids do when they reach a certain age and getting dirt, oil plus other mysterious goo on them.

does the engine turn over when you try to restart ??? if your answer is yes ...........its not your starter , all a starter does is turn the engine , nothing else.!!!!

Hey Just Ryan, Yes it turns over but doesn't start. Read on another forum that it might be a faulty solenoid on the starter? It starts fine and runs, but when I turn it off and try to restart it, it doesn't start.

ok i understand ...but if it turns over the starter is working ,

the solenoid does not work after you release the ignition key ... your starter and solenoid just sits there, until the next time you switch off ,and are ready to start up...

check you fuel filter first ( see if its tightened and if its sealing properly , if its losing pressure , it will start after trying a few time , until the fuel come back up ...

the reason why i suggested this , most times people over look one or the other , it takes fuel and electrical to run an engine , most times " most " i say , if its electrical is acting up ,its all the time ...not just only after a while ...

Sounds like crank position sensor. Next time, get the car up to operating temperature, then try to restart. If it doesn't start put the garden hose on the crank position sensor sensor and try again.

Thank you Abran, I was told that is was the Crank Position Sensor as well I bought a new one just need to install. I took my Rover to a specialist and he told me it was the Fuel Pump! Thats a 399.99 part! Now I don't know WTF! LOL put I will try the CPS and get a fuel pump at half the cost somewhere I also bought a new Fuel Filter and upstream sensors too, soon there where be all new parts

I need to go get my Rover back and pay the Diagnosis fee, put know since the mechanic had it, he mentioned it doesn't start anymore! Figures right? lol, time to us my AAA card and go get it, repair it myself

is 97 a obdII system? if so you can check the ckps with a obdII scanner that shows live data. if the rpms are 0 while cranking the sensor is bad
