Default 97 discovery won't fire

Somebody please help. I'm a Land Rover newbie here bought a 97 for $600 won't start. Mobile mechanic checked it out it has spark, sprayed ether nothing. Turns over won't fire. No check engine light or anything. I swapped ecu from junkyard now I have check engine light on, it sounds like it's trying to fire but just won't catch. It only has 119,000 miles they say it ran a week ago never had an issue. They changed the cooling fan, drove it 100 feet and parked it, now it won't start. Also had no battery in it for a week if that helps. Any suggestions before a pricy tow to a shop

Test the fuel pressure on the fuel rail. There is a schrader valve (like your tires air valve) on the passenger side. You should have ~32-38 PSI with key in position II.

Needing a new fuel pump is a very common repair.

A couple of other items...
Welcome to the board. Always good to have new people. There is a specific D1 section so future threads should be posted there. Also, to prevent having to specify which truck you have every time, it is best to put that info in your signature. Find the 'user CP' section and edit your signature there.

ok, I know this is going to sound stupid but please bear with me, anything mechanical I'm great at, but electronics baffle me as does this foreign vehicle but I've always wanted one so I jumped on it, we squirted gas even starting fluid in intake got nothing. Just a little sputter like it tried for a second. Is there a special guage to test the fuel pressure or, would a tire guage work? I'm really hoping I didn't make a mistake buying this. I know they drive it to it's position on the lot and it never started again.

I'd put the original ECU back in and check for spark myself. Don't worry about the check engine light just yet. Get it started first.

A tire gauge will work, but it is messy. Local parts store should be able to help.
