ABS / TC lights on dash ...
OK ... status report time:
I did a brake rebuild this past weekend ... I installed new rotors and pads on all 4 wheels, and semi-flushed the old brake fluid. Even though this was my first ever brake job, and I was all alone, I made it thru it (with the help of Disco Mike) and the brakes are working fantastic now. I'm sure they'll be even a little bit better once they really settle in and once I do a complete flush of the fluid ... but I digress ...
Now that the brakes are done, I took the truck to someone who could read and clear the fault codes that caused my trio of lights to turn on. As it turns out (IIRC), the only fault code thrown was the 4084 - front right wheel speed sensor. I don't know, and 'they' couldn't tell me for sure if it is the wheel speed sensor, the wheel hub itself, or both ... but regardless, I had the code cleared so that my ABS, Traction Control, and Hill Descent Control systems are operational again. I'm going to drive the truck as-is until another fault code is thrown, and at that time I'll probably dig a little deeper if necessary to see what I need to do to fix any 'real' problems ...
So, without going so far that I'm talking about things I don't really know about, all I can say is this. From talking to Disco Mike and some other knowledgable people, it seems that this trio of lights can be triggered rather easily by non-existent problems (for lack of a better way to say it) ... so if yours do trigger, don't go jump off a bridge thinking it's going to cost $3000+ for a new ABS system and wheel hubs etc... It could simply be due to squealing brakes, too much brake dust, a loose wheel speed sensor, a worn wheel hub, or a simple electrical system quirk ...
Disco Mike: Thanks so much again for all your help and guidance you offered me during this "trial" of mine ... I guess I'm now at least partially initiated into the wonderful world of being a Rover Owner ...
